London Pub Theatres Awards 2021 - Ross Kernahan
Katla Theatre is an award-winning, emerging company focusing on cross-cultural stories, with roots in devising and physical theatre.

We strive to merge text, movement and soundscape to bring stories to life in new and vivid ways.

Founded in 2021, debuting with the sell out run of work-in-progress piece, Mary & Mietek, which won a London Pub Theatres award. Mary & Mietek was developed and opened at The Space Theatre in September 2022, as our debut full-length production.

Now we are in preparations to take Mary & Mietek to Iceland for the Reykjavik Fringe Festival 2023!

Maria Laumark
Artistic Director
Maria Laumark set up Katla Theatre Company in 2021. She has worked extensively in both Denmark and in the UK as a facilitator, performer and producer - recently with Cut the Chord on New Nordicks Festival. In her work, Maria focuses on cross cultural engagement and international collaborations, last year travelling to South America to create an international network for young people training in physical theatre, linking Denmark, France, Poland, Ecuador, Chile and Columbia.
Charlie Sloboda-Bolton
Associate Artist
Charlie has been colaborating with Maria since 2019 on each iteration of Mary & Mietek. The grandfather of the real Mary and Mietek, Charlie discovered their letters and felt it was time to tell their story. He is an actor, writer and director having performed for the Hope Mill Theatre and Leeds Playhouse. He is currently writing his first musical for the Argentinian tenor, Rafael Montero, and concurrently working on his first collection of poetry.
